
He has also completed the membership exam in periodontics by the Royal College of Surgeons (MPerio-Edinburgh).
Rakan completed his undergraduate (BDS) degree from University of Dundee in 2010 and has spent several years working internationally in the Middle East. Rakan worked several years in general practice and was involved early on in the treatment of periodontitis cases while working in a multi-disciplinary center environment. During this time, he embarked on dental volunteer work in Karapitiya, Sri Lanka. This involved working alongside local doctors and managing cases related to cleft lip and palate.
Rakan’s work experience ranges from the diagnosis, treatment and management of periodontal disease non-surgically and surgically. Additionally, his scope of work includes correction of gum deformities such as short clinical crowns or recession. He also has a breadth of experience in implant placement, and management of implant disease.
